The Outpost Campground @ New River Gorge

West Virginia

The Outpost Campground has something for any age camper. It is dog-friendly, family-friendly, and one of the cleanest facilities I have visited.

Friendly staff will greet you and check you in. The office provides the option to purchase supplies you may have forgotten.

I was there on a weekend and they had entertainment in their lodge on Friday and Saturday evening. They also had a food truck and a small bar which sold beer and wine.

A central area with string lights and a bonfire provided a nice atmosphere in which to mingle with fellow campers.

The Outpost Campground offers several types of lodging options. They have 2 themed campers, rustic cabins, tent sites, field camping, and RV full and partial hookups.

The bathhouse was immaculate, roomy and complete with rain showerheads. Facilities also included a dishwashing area and a laundry room.

Just a few steps away, you will find the Marr Creek Falls and Bridge Trail which lead to the New River Gorge Bridge lookout. Even if you complete the hike, I suggest taking a short drive to the New River Gorge Bridge National Park Visitor Center. They will direct you to the 7-mile drive which leads you to the river under the bridge. There are several spots to stop and take pictures. The drive ends at The Outpost Campground. Very convenient!

The campground is located close to whitewater rafting, climbing, hiking, mountain biking, and activities for all ages.

For a fee, you can brave the Bridge Walk guided tour which takes you on a 24-inch catwalk, 25 feet below the bridge. Before beginning the tour, guests are securely fastened onto a safety cable and walk the entire 3,030-foot length of the bridge.

The small town of Fayetteville, West Virginia is charming. I enjoyed strolling through the historic downtown area. There are plenty of shops and the local food favorites include the Secret Sandwich Society and Wanderlust Creative Foods.

I did have time to grab a bite to eat at the Secret Sandwich Shop. It was great and the pie was even better. They have a wide variety of dishes on the menu.

Whether you are traveling solo, with a group or with the family, there is something here for everyone.

I highly recommend this campground!
